I know what you're thinking about this whole potty training deal--- this is going to be tough! Well, I have good news-- it doesn't have to be . With these potty training tips you should have your child potty trained in a jiffy with little or no grinding of the teeth!
1. Have Patience and Be Ready To Listen
As you already may know from other moms out there, potty training can be very frustrating and can take months of effort in order to get your child fully potty trained. The first steps you should take is to be patient for your child if he or she is unwilling to be potty trained. Make sure you are well prepared and ready to listen to the advise of others who have done this before you and have tips that may be a life saver during this time. Except the fact that this may take a long time but have a technique to go by and if that first one doesn't work for your child try another one.
2.The Age of Your Toddler
It has been found that the best age to potty train a child is between the ages on 18 months and 4 years old. If you try at an earlier age than this, you may run into frustrations because a lot of times babies have little or hardly any control over their bladder or bowel movements. When the child is older, the capacity for the bladder is much bigger so potty training can be done faster.
3. Signs Of Readiness
Here are some signs that you will see when your toddler is ready to be potty trained.
a. Their bowel movements are consistant
b. Diaper stays dry for 2 or 3 hours
c. Understands and listens to instruction
d. Starts telling you by facial expressions or verbally of the need to urinate
e. Not comfortable when the diaper is soiled
f. Can concentrate on an activity for more than 10 minutes
4. Objects Needed for Potty Training
a. Potty seats (buy at least 2 of the same so you always have one on hand)
b. Babydoll (try to use one that is of the same sex as your child)
c. Training underwear (ones that are easy to pull up and down)
d. Goodies (Your child's favorite candy or toy)
e.Chart (keep track of their progress)
Note: Give your child a say in what he or she would like as a goody for doing well.
5. Potty Train The BabyDoll
The babydoll is a great tool to use to teach your child. Start by playing with the doll, then give water to it, next explain that it really needs to go potty, and run it to sit on the potty. Do this a couple of times all the while explaining it to your child.
6. Familiarize Your Child With The Potty
Encourage your child to get used to sitting on the potty by having them take off their underwear, sit down on the potty seat, going potty, wiping and then flushing the potty. Get them used to going into the bathroom and doing this several times a day. Encourage them with every inch of progress by enthusiasm and praise.
7. Set Aside a Potty Time
When your child is used to the potty seat, start setting aside time when you won't be interrupted to take them to the potty. You should be watching them closely and becoming familiar with their bladder and bowel movements. As soon as you see the signs, you should rush them to the potty seat.
8. Fluids
Make sure that your toddler is drinking a lot of fluid and also consuming plenty of fresh fruit. This will guarantee a soft bowl movement and keep your child from experiencing pain from constipation.
9. Always Celebrate
Make the potty training experience fun for your child by exulting and praising him or her when they try to go potty. Make them feel like a hundred bucks every time they have an achievement so that they will be encouraged to do it again.
10. Goody System
Last of all, the goody system can be used to prompt your child into using the potty seat. Some examples are giving the child a lollipop, a favorite candy, trip to the park, new toy, and lots of praise. By following these points that we just reviewed you should have a child that is potty trained in no time flat!
