Britax is one of the leading companies when it comes to safety features, and the Britax Diplomat is no different. It included the patented Versa-Tether, the built-in lockoffs (which assure no slippage over an inch in any direction), True Side-Impact protection, and energy absorbent foam. This seat will fit securely in your car, rear or front facing, and with a depth of only 22.1” is designed to fit even in smaller back seats.

The padding and material on the Diplomat is generous and soft. It also comes with an infant insert to mold to the body of tiny babies, and which can be removed when they get bigger.

Users say this is an easy seat to install, as it is LATCH equipped. They also love the no-rethread height adjustment, which means that as your baby grows (which they do so quickly in the first year) you can adjust the seat to fit them without the pain of having to fiddle with rethreading the straps through the cover! You simply have to turn a knob, and the straps will readjust to where you need them.

Britax says that the plush covering is not machine-washable, which may discourage some consumers, but many parents have tried washing the cover in a machine and report no problems. If you do not want to take the risk, the durable material can easily be hand-washed.

The recline function can be used front and rear facing, and is well designed, as it neither sits up to straight or lays back too far. Parents of children who have not liked other car seats often say that their babies are very comfortable in the Diplomat, often falling right to sleep (what a bonus!).

If you have a very small back seat, you may find other Britax seats are too big for your vehicle, but the Diplomat could allow you to own a Britax without needing a new car! This is not a cheap car seat, but it does come loaded with excellent safety and comfort features, so you will be getting what you pay for.
