Convertible Car Seats
Unlike the infant car seat which your baby will eventually outgrow during his sixth to twelfth month, convertible car seats can be used from birth up until toddler hood. The seat can be used in rear facing or forward facing positions, depending on the weight of your child. The problem with this type of car seat, however, is that it cannot be taken out of a car, and it can be difficult to move from one car to another. Unlike an infant car seat, it also cannot double as an infant carrier.
Graco My Ride 65 is the first convertible car seat in the United States to have a 40 lb. rear – facing weight limit instead of the regular 30 lb. weight limit. It can be used in front facing position for toddlers up to 65 lbs. The seat can easily accommodate a large toddler, but its infant padding can be used to help keep smaller babies snugly in place. The seat also features a tall shell, plenty of EPS foam and high harness slots. The LATCH straps are also color coded, making forward – facing or rear – facing installations a breeze.
