The Perfect Ride: Choosing A Baby Stroller For Your Child
Expecting a new baby calls for preparation – and plenty of it. Most parents want to make sure that everything is ready when the baby comes out, so a good deal of reading, researching and of course, a lot shopping is well expected. Aside from the crib/bassinet and baby car seat, a baby strollers should also top any parent's shopping list – and that includes yours.
There are different types and different strollers out in the market, and that is because baby stroller manufacturers understand that there isn't really a one – size – fit – all stroller. There are strollers perfect for home and mall use, while there are also strollers perfect for the outdoors. Some strollers come with compartments and organizers, while some are convertible to travel systems. Because of the variety of types of strollers in the market, some parents have a hard time choosing as to what to buy for their baby. Here are the most common stroller types and a few models that fall under each of the category.
Three Wheeled Stroller
Three wheeled strollers are getting more and more popular nowadays. Three wheeled strollers are sleeker than their four wheeled counterparts, making them easier to maneuver in crowded places and rougher terrain.
The Quinny Buzz is a sporty and versatile baby stroller. It comes in seven basic but eye catching colors and features gas spring technology that allows the stroller to fold automatically. Other features of the Quinny Buzz are its five – point safety harness, parking brake and an optional Mico Infant Car Seat add on.
Light Weight Strollers
Lightweight strollers have taken cue from the umbrella strollers of the past, but have packed in more and more features. A lot of lightweight strollers even have features comparable to regular sized strollers, but are of course much lighter. Lightweight strollers make travel easier and take up minimal space in the car trunk.
The Maclaren Volo is a super lightweight stroller that only weighs in at nine lbs. However, it does pack a punch for such a small package. The Mclaren Volo comes in plenty of colors and designs, from basic colors to fun prints. This stroller has a sturdy aluminum frame, breathable mesh seat and a water resistant canopy. The Volo can carry up to 55 lbs, but since it doesn't recline, you'll have to wait until your baby turns six months before using the stroller.
Travel System
The travel system includes traditional convertible stroller and a detachable car seat. You can easily snap the car seat on the stroller and keep it there until the baby learns to sit up. This also saves you from the hassle of transferring a sleeping baby from the car to the stroller. When the baby is older, the car seat can then be left out of the equation, and the baby can be placed in the stroller. One thing about the travel system is that it is bulky and heavy, and lifting and shoving it in the trunk of the car can be a task. However, travel systems are strong, sturdy and they last a long time, too.
Graco Metrolite is a popular model because it is more lightweight than other travel systems making it easier to maneuver, fold and store. The travel system features a SungRide infant car seat that matches the design of the stroller. The Metrolite also features a front tray, a big container basket, height adjustable handles and a parent tray. The seat can be fully reclined for use with smaller babies. The Metrolite can carry up to 40lbs, which means it can go a long way and can be used with infants and toddlers.
Double Strollers
Double strollers are must haves for parents with multiples. Double strollers come in side by side seats, which are often convertible so they can be used for newborns or stadium seating strollers. For stadium seating strollers, the second seat is usually higher than the first, allowing the baby at the back to get the same view as the baby sitting in front. There are also strollers for triplets, too.
The Baby Jogger City Mini Stroller is one of the most light weight tandem strollers out in the market, making it easy to maneuver and fold. The stroller can be used from childbirth and beyond with its near flat reclining padded seat. It also features storage compartments behind the seats, padded 5 – point safety harness, rear parking brake and front wheel suspension. It is also less than 30 inches wide, which means it can fit through standard sized doors – a feat that's quite difficult to do with regular tandem strollers.
Before purchasing any type of stroller, make sure that you test drive the stroller first to make sure that your choice is easy to navigate. You may also want to try folding the stroller and picking it up to see how heavy it is. Some strollers have additional features like storage space, adjustable handlebars, parent and baby trays and treaded wheels which you may want to consider. Lastly, while most strollers out in the market today meet standard safety features, you should always make it a point to double check the harnesses, wheel locks and safety certifications to make sure that you get a baby stroller that's safe and perfect for your little one to use.
