Potty training your child can be a difficult and stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be. You can make the experience a little bit easier by following these simple tips.

Start When Your Child is Ready. Instead of deciding that your child should be trained at a certain age, start training when your child shows an interest. This will make the process easier and less stressful for both of you.

Reward Your Child’s Successes. When your child goes potty, you can reward her with stickers, trinkets, or even pieces of candy. Allowing your child to pick out the potty prizes can really be a big encouragement.

Prepare Your Child For the Process. Nowadays, there are DVD’s,

books, and even websites that explain the process in kid friendly terms. My son loves Elmo’s Potty Training DVD and played it often when he was training. I learned one important thing from this: discreetly encourage your child to pick a DVD that you find minimally irritating as you will be watching it quite a bit.

Don’t Compare Your Child With Others. Refrain from comparing your child to other children and getting worried or upset when “Little Johnny” hasn’t been trained when your friends child was over the process months ago. Johnny isn’t your friend’s child.

Ÿ Don’t Get Angry Over Mishaps. There are bound to be a few bumps in the road during the potty training process. Of course, it is understandable to be upset or frustrated when things don’t go so well, but it is important to not take your anger or frustration out on your child.

Potty Training Is A Process

It is very important to remember that potty training is a process. It is not something that is achieved in a day or even a weekend. In fact, he entire process can take anywhere from two to 6 months. Of course, even after you think that your child has been trained, you might have to deal with accidents or other mishaps.

Expect Some Setbacks

Events like the birth of a new baby, a death in the family, or even a vacation can cause your child to regress in their potty training abilities. Do not become alarmed or upset if this happens to your child as it is quite common. Instead, just continue on with the potty training process.

Relax

I remember very vividly how I struggled to train my youngest daughter. She simply refused to use the potty until she was 4 years old! I was so concerned that I consulted with our pediatrician who consoled me with this sage advice “No one ever went to kindergarten in diapers. Relax.”

Darren’s main interest is on writing and reviewing various people search engines to find people online.

I know what you're thinking about this whole potty training deal--- this is going to be tough! Well, I have good news-- it doesn't have to be . With these potty training tips you should have your child potty trained in a jiffy with little or no grinding of the teeth!

1. Have Patience and Be Ready To Listen

As you already may know from other moms out there, potty training can be very frustrating and can take months of effort in order to get your child fully potty trained. The first steps you should take is to be patient for your child if he or she is unwilling to be potty trained. Make sure you are well prepared and ready to listen to the advise of others who have done this before you and have tips that may be a life saver during this time. Except the fact that this may take a long time but have a technique to go by and if that first one doesn't work for your child try another one.

2.The Age of Your Toddler

It has been found that the best age to potty train a child is between the ages on 18 months and 4 years old. If you try at an earlier age than this, you may run into frustrations because a lot of times babies have little or hardly any control over their bladder or bowel movements. When the child is older, the capacity for the bladder is much bigger so potty training can be done faster.

3. Signs Of Readiness

Here are some signs that you will see when your toddler is ready to be potty trained.

a. Their bowel movements are consistant
b. Diaper stays dry for 2 or 3 hours
c. Understands and listens to instruction
d. Starts telling you by facial expressions or verbally of the need to urinate
e. Not comfortable when the diaper is soiled
f. Can concentrate on an activity for more than 10 minutes

4. Objects Needed for Potty Training

a. Potty seats (buy at least 2 of the same so you always have one on hand)

b. Babydoll (try to use one that is of the same sex as your child)

c. Training underwear (ones that are easy to pull up and down)

d. Goodies (Your child's favorite candy or toy)

e.Chart (keep track of their progress)

Note: Give your child a say in what he or she would like as a goody for doing well.

5. Potty Train The BabyDoll

The babydoll is a great tool to use to teach your child. Start by playing with the doll, then give water to it, next explain that it really needs to go potty, and run it to sit on the potty. Do this a couple of times all the while explaining it to your child.

6. Familiarize Your Child With The Potty

Encourage your child to get used to sitting on the potty by having them take off their underwear, sit down on the potty seat, going potty, wiping and then flushing the potty. Get them used to going into the bathroom and doing this several times a day. Encourage them with every inch of progress by enthusiasm and praise.

7. Set Aside a Potty Time

When your child is used to the potty seat, start setting aside time when you won't be interrupted to take them to the potty. You should be watching them closely and becoming familiar with their bladder and bowel movements. As soon as you see the signs, you should rush them to the potty seat.

8. Fluids

Make sure that your toddler is drinking a lot of fluid and also consuming plenty of fresh fruit. This will guarantee a soft bowl movement and keep your child from experiencing pain from constipation.

9. Always Celebrate

Make the potty training experience fun for your child by exulting and praising him or her when they try to go potty. Make them feel like a hundred bucks every time they have an achievement so that they will be encouraged to do it again.

10. Goody System

Last of all, the goody system can be used to prompt your child into using the potty seat. Some examples are giving the child a lollipop, a favorite candy, trip to the park, new toy, and lots of praise. By following these points that we just reviewed you should have a child that is potty trained in no time flat!
