Choosing the Best Stroller for Your Baby

When you are looking for the best stroller you can get for your baby, you are making one of the most important safety decisions for your child as well. With so many options to consider and a new baby stroller on the market every week, it can be difficult to choose not only which one will be the safest but which one will be the best match for your situation as well. There are strollers for every type of circumstance imaginable and some may be better suited for your lifestyle. How often you want to use the stroller will be a big factor in making your decision.
Some of the areas we will look at in helping you make choose a stroller are your life situation, how much you want to spend, what size is best for you, what safety features you need, how easy is the stroller to operate, and how durable it is to last as long as you need.
What is Your Lifestyle?
Every parent is different and your lifestyle will help determine how often you will use the stroller as well as when and where. You may live in a suburb and want to jog with your stroller or you may want to only use it indoors. If you are only going to use your stroller when you go shopping or are running around town, you should pick one that is more economical and smaller in size since you will be constantly putting it in and taking it out of your vehicle. If you have a lot of stairs or use the bus or subway a lot, a lighter stroller would be a must as well. While jogging strollers are great they are terrible for transporting in a car or van.
How Much Are You Willing to Spend?
This question will really help to weed out a lot of costly strollers that have more bells and whistles than you may need. Depending on the size of your family, parents usually end up with 2 - 3 strollers for different situations and for children of different ages. This may cut down on the ability to afford the best money can buy, but be sure to be practical when choosing one that suits your needs. Extra features is a big selling point for these companies, but they are not always necessary.
How Big of a Stroller Do you Need?
If you are going to be squeezing your stroller through all kinds of doorways and up and down stairs and cramming it into your vehicle, size will be a big issue. Also remember that when you are not using the stroller it will still have to be stored somewhere and take up extra room.
Always Get a Safe Stroller
Safety is the biggest issue for me, even if you have to pay a little more for it. Stroller accidents are rare but they do happen, so make sure the one you are looking for at least meets the ASTM safety standards. But these features will mean nothing if you do not follow some common sense guidelines in operating your stroller.
How Well Does the Stroller Move?
Just like with cars, every stroller has a different feel to it and if you are going to be moving in and out of clothing racks at the mall, you want some good swivel wheels to save you some frustration. You want a wheelbase that is wide enough so the stroller does not tip over easily when going around turns as well. Try out the stroller if you can and take it for a little test drive.
What Kind of Quality Do You Need?
Along with a well made stroller often comes some weight as well, although the more expensive models are made of some stronger and lighter material. Plastic strollers will not hold up as well as metal ones do and that means your investment will not last as long with plastic either.
