The Graco CarGo Booster’s claim to fame is that it is a toddler/child seat (20-100lbs) that is also lightweight and has a relatively small footprint (16.5” wide). Many people have reported that they have fit three of these across the back seat of their vehicle, or two of these and an infant seat, which is a big bonus for three-child families that do not own a large van! The small footprint is also a bonus if you have plans to use your car seat on an airplane, which users say is done very easily with the CarGo. It is also light (8.5lbs), which again is good if plan on flying with it, or if you intend on switching the seat between vehicles often – though at $99.99 or less, you could just buy one for each vehicle!
The biggest complaint with the CarGo Booster is that it claims to have a “recline” feature, but users have found that it is just a piece of plastic that flips out to fold under the seat. The seat cannot be reclined while in use or without at least partially de-installing it. As well, the inner foam only covers half of the inner back – the lower back is left un-padded. Some parents have solved this problem by installing a piece of foam themselves. Despite the issues with the recline and the foam, the general consensus is still that this is a comfortable seat.
Another big plus with the CarGo is that it has a 5-point harness that is usable until 40 pounds. This becomes a real bonus when one discovers that there are virtually no complaints about the straps being too small (the top harness slots are 17” high), so the harness seems to actually last as long as it says it will! After the 40lbs you can stop using the harness and use the car seatbelt to secure the child into the CarGo, and you can use the seat in this “booster” fashion until 100lbs.
Add a few extra features such as cup holders and removable, washable covers, and for less than $100 the Graco CarGo Booster is the choice for many, especially for those who need a narrow seat so they can fit three car seats in one car. Not a bad Graco car seat.
