The Graco Infant SafeSeat is good up to 30lbs, which is more than the Graco Snugride (20lbs), but less than the Graco My Ride 65 (40lbs). This means it will be good for many babies, even big babies, at least for the first year. Exceptionally tall babies may outgrow the seat, however, before they reach 30lbs and some parents have found the straps get too tight when their babies reach about 21lbs.

The Safeseat is also a little bit heavier than the lightest infant seats. Part of this is due to the extra padding, which adds comfort, and part of it is because it fits until 30lbs (well, at least for many babies!). This means the SafeSeat is a little bit harder to carry the baby in, but the tradeoff is it is a bit sturdier than some and will last longer. Parents also feel the added bulk, though heavy, makes this a sturdier and therefore safer feeling Graco car seat.

Additional bases are available for the Safeseat, so you could put an extra base in all of your vehicles for hassle-free switching between cars. This is a big bonus for families who have more than one vehicle in which baby will ride! When the seat snaps off the in-car base it can then be attached to almost any Graco stroller base, which means you don’t need to bring a big, bulky stroller with you…just the stroller frame to insert the car seat into.

Positive features of this seat are that the straps are easy to adjust (it has a front strap adjust system) and the cover is removable and fully washable. The straps are not washable, so if you buy the SafeSeat you may want to buy strap covers which you can wash, and which give added comfort for baby.

So if you want a seat that will definitely last until one year, you may want to look elsewhere. If you want a very sturdy and comfortable first car seat though, the SafeSeat will not leave you disappointed.
