When it comes to Recaro seats, they usually mean happy parents, and the Recaro Como Convertible is no exception. It is a sturdy, heavy seat with lots of side impact protection (SIP) from a company that has been building racing car seats for years.
Many parents who have always had comfort problems with their children’s car seats say that the Como has finally allowed their child to be comfortable and relaxed on long journeys. This may be due to the soft microfiber fabric, or to the cozy, narrow seat, or to the super-padded side headrests – or maybe due the Recaro’s knowledge of ergonomics. Whatever it is, there are many happy little ones riding around in the Como.
Some people feel the seat is a little too big for their tiny newborns, but there is lots of padding, which can be removed as they grow, so the Como is a seat that will grow with your child. Hypothectically, this seat could last from birth to 8 years though! Some other seats, even some Recaro seats, do not have the removable head cushions.
In the rear-facing position it has three recline settings for added comfort, and though the seat sits high up this can be a bonus, as children can look out the window and see the world as it rolls on by. It may take a while for some shorter drivers to get used to looking over the seat, but this would not be enough of a reason not to buy this seat for most consumers.
Virtually no problems are reported with installation, which is good if you don’t have much patience for fiddling with those things. If you read the manual you will have no problems at all. Strap and height adjustment are also easy, which is typical in Recaro seats.
Overall, the consensus on the Recaro Como is that it is worth the money – a good investment in your child’s safety and comfort. If you have the money to spend, it will be well spent on this car seat – it is sporty-looking, safe and comfortable – what more do you need?
