Safety 1st says this is 3 car seats in one: a rear-facing harness seat, a front-facing harness seat, and a front-facing booster. This seems quite versatile, but the problem is that the middle position, front-facing harness, has an upper weight limit of only 5 pounds more than rear-facing harness. This means the front-facing position is only good for 5lbs, which may be a few months at most. There are other car seats available that offer front-harness seating until 65lbs or 80lbs, and these are truer “all-in-one” seats.

Despite the issue of low upper harness weight, the Safety 1st All-in-One Convertible does have some nice features. It comes with the company’s QuickFit harness system, which is incredibly popular with parents – this system allows the height of the shoulder straps to be adjusted without rethreading the straps, and with just of click of a button while the seat is still in the vehicle. The one-hand 3-position recline also adds ease of use to the design of this seat, allowing you to tailor the fit of the seat to your child on a daily basis according to their growth and what they are wearing.

As this is a seat that you will potentially use for years, the material needs to be of high quality. Users report they have removed and machine washed the cover in cold water many times and that it is still in good condition. Some have found, however, it is quite difficult to reassemble, so when you go to wash it do yourself a favor and follow the instructions in the manual!

Children like that this is a big seat and they can sit up quite high, making them feel like “big kids” and letting them view the world through the windows. If you have a small car, check the measurements of your back seat against the car seat dimensions to ensure proper fit.

Parents also like the recline feature, finding that smaller children like it fully reclined and older children like it more upright. When the children get older there is also a removable cup holder to hold their drinks and snacks.

Installation, like on many seats, gets mixed reports. Some owners experience troubles, and others say it is ok. If you read the manual it will be easier, and if it is too bothersome take it to the fire hall and have them do it for you. A large number of users require towels or pool noodles under the seat when in rear-facing position.
