The Safety 1st Complete Air Convertible is a car seat that offers extended weight limits for both rear-facing and front-facing harness use. It can be rear-facing until 40lbs, and front-facing with 5-point harness until 50lbs. This is not the highest weight available (some seats offer harness until 65lbs), but it definitely more generous than most. The rear-facing until 40lbs is a great bonus, allowing your child to face backwards, which is safest, well over one year.
The QuickFit harness system is also a great advantage. It allows the headrest and harness to be adjusted easily with the click of a button, without the need to remove the car seat from the vehicle or rethread the straps. As babies grow so quickly, this could save you a lot of time and headaches.
Another huge bonus is the one-hand four-position recline. This allows your little one to rest in comfort while reclined and sleeping, or to sit more upright when awake and see the world through the window of the car.
This seat is also side-impact tested and offers Air-Protect Technology, which shields the child’s head and reduces the force of the impact by releasing air in a controlled fashion. If you are concerned about side-impact (which you should be!) then this is a feature which can offer you peace of mind.
One complaint is that this seat might be a little bit too big for brand new newborns. The minimum height is an 11” torso, so it may take a few months before you can use this seat.
Rear-facing, this seat is also quite deep (31.5”). This could be a problem for users with a small back seat in their vehicles, so before you purchase this seat it would be smart to measure the distance between the backseat and the front seat in your car. Forward-facing the seat has a considerably smaller depth.
So, if you are looking for an easy to adjust car seat with high rear-facing weight limits and high front-facing 5-point harness use, this could be a good choice, especially if you have already had an infant carrier and are looking to transfer your child for extended rear facing!
