What Are Best Breast Pumps for You?

Breastfeeding is very healthy for babies but it is not always a convenient exercise.  Breast pumps help resolve this problem by being able to feed your baby in public or with friends by giving your baby the best nutrients from a bottle.  And you can even let someone else feed your baby with the milk you extracted with these pumps.   There are a few different types of breast pumps to choose from, including hospital grade breast pumps, electric breast pumps, and manual breast pumps which are operated by hand.

Hospital Grade Electric Breast Pumps:

These are the best that money can buy.  If you can afford a breast pump with this kind of quality, I highly recommend you do, because there is quite a difference with hospital grade and the ones you can get for under $200.   These are particularly useful if you are going to do a lot of feeding.  These have dual pumps that are very efficient in getting as much milk as you will allow them to take.   These have suck and release cycle that mimics a baby to help the process to be as natural as possible and so they do not drain you completely dry.  The hospital grade pumps are pretty heavy so they are not great if you want portability.  They can weigh anywhere from 18 to 25 pounds., so it would be a good work out to lug this thing around.   You can either buy or rent one, but if you will use it a lot and plan on having more than 1 child you should just go ahead and buy one.  They can cost about $1,000 and up and offer the best in breast pumps.

Electric Breast Pumps:

For a more economical approach electric breast pumps can be purchased anywhere from $100 - $300 depending on the brand and what features you want.  These are fully automatic and offer different suction levels.  They often come with dual pumps as well, but the main selling point of these breast pumps is their functionality combined with their convenience.  You can have some of the features that come with a hospital grade breast pump with the portability of a light weight case.  You can get a fair amount of use out of these pumps and many will even run in a car's cigarette lighter, so you can pump away some breast milk while your husband is driving.  Might be a little awkward if you are driving with dual breast pumps attached and you get pulled over by a cop.  Would make a great story that we would want to hear about here though.

Manual Breast Pumps:

This is the cheapest approach for those who just want an extra breast pump in addition to their hospital grade or electric pump.  These are nice and small and fit nicely in a suit case when traveling.  Most of  the manual pumps are for only one breast at a time, but you can breast feed your baby with one breast while using the pump on the other if you wanted.  These are hand operated and can take some getting used to and can be quite the work out if you are going to be using it a lot.  But for only around $20 - $30 it is the most affordable option of all.
